The en dash (U+2013) is a punctuation mark roughly the width of a capital N, used primarily to denote ranges—such as pages 10–20 or the years 1990–2000—and to express connection or opposition in compound terms like the New York–London flight. Its name derives from traditional typography, reflecting its measure relative to the em dash. In writing, it clarifies numeric spans where a hyphen would be ambiguous. Typographically, it appears without surrounding spaces in English.
